Maintaining interest-free status for federal student loans
The Government of Canada has suspended the accumulation of interest on Canada student loans until March 31, 2023.
Students don't need to confirm enrolment to maintain interest free status. Note: this doesn't apply to students who wish to postpone repayment.
Additionally, students don't need to submit a request to remain interest-free for the spring/summer months if they intend to return to their studies in the fall. The National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) automatically grants every student a six-month grace period upon the completion of their studies. Log in to your NSLSC account to review the latest information on your repayment terms. If you want to make further changes, you can customize your payment terms anytime.
